Monthly Meetings

We meet on the third Thursday evening of each month except December. Meetings are usually a talk given by a guest speaker followed by refreshments and a chance to chat to your fellow gardeners. These take place at The Cloisters, Barrington Road, Letchworth and start at 7:30pm. Entry for LDGA & LALG members is £3 each, for everyone else it is £4 each, this includes refreshments. There is also a raffle with tickets at £1 a strip.

During the summer our Thursday meeting may be ‘away’, when we visit a local garden centre or other garden related establishment and once or twice a year we have a social evening such as the Sausage Sizzle Social: a sausage ‘n’ mash supper followed by a fun quiz.

Occasionally we host celebrity speakers: our highlight this year is on 25th November when Chelsea award winner and TV presenter Nick Bailey will give a presentation entitled ‘365 Days of Colour’.

Visit our What’s on page to see this year’s line-up.

Summer Outings

We have several outings throughout the year, one to RHS Hyde Hall or Wisley, and another one or two to visit non-RHS gardens. These trips are on first come first served basis and prices vary according to destination.

We also have various events going on during the year for members to participate in, these include a potato day and a members’ social evening; we also attend several local events to help promote the activities of the association.

Again, visit our What’s on page for more details.

Coffee Mornings

On the first Wednesday of every month at 10:00am our President, Graham Tapp holds a members Coffee morning at Tapps Garden Centre, Wallington Road, Baldock. This is a good opportunity to socialise and meet fellow members; there is usually plenty of garden related chat going on.

LDGA members can enjoy 10% discount off all items from the garden centre and tea room at any time on production of their current membership card.

Produce Shows

Two of the highlights of the LDGA year are the Summer & Autumn Shows when you get the chance to show off all the good work that you’ve been doing – not just flowers, fruit and vegetables but also cookery and handicrafts. These take place in the Free Church Hall, Norton Way South, Letchworth in July and September respectively. It’s a great afternoon out for everyone, even if you are not exhibiting, the shows include plant and produce sales, culinary demonstrations, and home-made refreshments.

Visit our Produce Shows page to find out more.
